On being published

Have you ever submitted something for publication? If so, how was the experience?

While I'm a little shy about admitting it here, I just finished submitting 2 ideas to a popular sewing/quilting magazine. I also have something in the works to be included in a project later this summer, but it is not in a printed format. It would be really cool to see my name in print, but I must admit that I don't have too much hope that my ideas will be accepted.

And by the by, sewing lessons are still going. We've logged about 15 hours this week on Amanda's quilt [it's amazing how much slower she sews than I do! Was I ever that slow and careful?]. She was so excited to see her first giant t-shirt Polaroid. I'm not going to lie, I'm glad she took my suggestion to make them Polaroids and not just sew them together as-is.

  1. Congratulations on submitting them! Hope they get accepted.

  2. I have a few things that I've thought to send in for publication but for whatever reason I've always held back. I guess the fear of rejection is stronger than my desire to see my name in print! I should probably get over that. Good luck to you, I'd be so excited to see your project in a magazine!

  3. I have been published in 2 card making magazines (total of 4 issues) and I have a project coming out in Stitch mag in the winter. submitting for publication is a lot of work, esp if you are chosen but I think it's worthwhile if that is your goal! you need to determine that for yourself. I have to admit it was incredibly gratifying since I tried with the cardmaking for over 2 yrs and being rejected for so long, then all of a sudden it happened and it was easier each time! the stitch magazine was totally unexpected! congratulations and good luck to you!
